For those in the British Commonwealth Nations, Happy Queens Birthday!

On this day each nation in the Commonwealth gives its highest honors to citizens who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in their field.

In England, the Queen bestows knighthood, and the title Sir or Lady as with Sir Elton John and Sir Paul McCartney. In Australia the Governor General, appointed by Queen Elizabeth, invests those citizens in the Order of Australia, presenting them with a medal and title.

Today Tommy Emmanuel has been given the Order of Australia medal and has the letters AM (Member of the Order) as his title, following on from his cgp. Tommy receives the award for accomplishment in music and contributions to Charities including Kids Under Cover – an agency that creates opportunities for street kids to build their own homes.

The Order of Australia is Australia's highest non-military honor. Tommy's will be invested with his medal at a later date, but today is the nationwide announcement. Australians you will see this in all media including TV interviews on ABC TV news and radio and Ten TV News.
