Share on Facebook TweetI was going through some old recordings, and I came across some recordings from my 2016 Christmas Tour with Pat Bergeson (guitar/harmonica), Annie Sellick (vocals), and my fellow CGP – John Knowles (guitar). When I listened to this recording, I heard the joy, soul, and fun we four had at that show. Christmas music is so joyous to me, and I feel we rose to the occasion that night. So, I decided to release it as live Christmas album, and I’m calling it LIVE! Christmas Time. It will be a digital only release, and it comes out on December 4. The full track list is below, and I hope it brings you and your family some joy this holiday season. Click the link below and listen to ‘Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer’ from the album.

The album is a re-recording of Bee Gees classics with contributions from some of the finest artists in country and Americana music. Dolly Parton, Keith Urban, Alison Krauss, Gillian Welch and more are on this record. I got to record “How Deep Is Your Love” with Barry and Little Big Town. Recording with Barry and the band was a great experience for me. I got chills so many times as Barry sang so beautifully. The band just seemed to embrace the song and I really felt how much this song meant to us all. It was a day made more special by being in RCA Studios, where the ghosts of past hits lit up the Nashville Skyline. Check out a new song from Barry’s album with my friend and accomplice Jason Isbell by clicking below….

“Stay Close To Me” originally appeared on Tommy’s album Only, but it’s also on his new album The Best of Tommysongs. This song has always been very personal to Tommy. It’s about trying to stay close to the ones he loves while still being thousands of miles apart.

Share on Facebook TweetAt one point in my career, I had management and the record company people pressuring me to not go solo. All my instincts were telling me that’s exactly what I must do. After some confrontations, I made the decision to break free of contracts, records companies, and management. I knew my destiny lie in being a solo player and composer. I was told that I was crazy thinking that people would want to hear solo acoustic guitar. They said there’s no market for that kind of music. I answered, “I’ll create one.” After standing my ground, I felt empowered to throw myself completely into a solo career. Once I made up my mind, nothing could stop this song coming out of me. It’s a statement of finding the courage to be yourself when all around you want you to be something else.

Share on Facebook TweetThis song is really a tribute to Chet Atkins for he was a man that planted seeds all over the world and changed the lives of everyone who came to know him and be influenced by him. The first bar of the bridge contains a quote from Merle Travis’ “Saturday Night Shuffle.” I did this on purpose because Merle came before Chet and there would be no Chet without Merle. Every time I perform this song, I feel like I’m standing on the shoulders of giants.

Share on Facebook TweetI wrote this song after having a dream in which my sister and brother visited me. It was very vivid and real. When I woke up, the hotel window was wide open and it was raining outside. I felt like they left via the window and left it open for me. Somehow this song speaks to the soul and gives me comfort.

Share on Facebook TweetLuttrell is a town in east Tennessee where my childhood hero, Chet Atkins, was born and raised. I took a trip out there, and I stood at the very spot where his house used to be, and I wrote this song. All my life, his love and encouragement has meant so much to me. He was a true friend, a great man, and one of the most important pioneers in the history of guitar playing.
